Our Story

It begins with Virginia. Picture of Virginia

Virginia, like many young adults with special needs, faces big challenges like finding meaningful work, independent living, and a welcoming community. We found that there are very few employment opportunities for her in the East Bay area. Today, unemployment, loneliness, and depression are at epidemic levels and we needed to do something.

In 2025, Virginia with her parents, Anastasios and Marianthy Barakos, launched The Ice Cream Garage to create meaningful work opportunities through an ice cream shop. Virginia and her friends will not only find jobs but also find a sense of belonging. We strive to empower individuals to build valuable skills, fostering independence, creativity, and personal growth.

Our small ice cream shop in Barrington, RI speaks to the power of human connections and the deep sense of belonging that comes from being welcomed into a community where everyone is valued and supported. It’s in these simple, meaningful moments that inclusivity and understanding truly shine.
